Reliance

The Environment

The vast majority of Reliance’s work is conducted at customer sites or otherwise outside the Reliance estate. The focus of Reliance’s environmental initiatives is therefore:

  • To help customers achieve their own environmental objectives, both by complying with their policies on those matters and by suggesting or advising on ways of improving working practices and sustainability. This year, Reliance FM has helped the AA to recycle over 65% of their waste and over 8,500 security officers received guidance on the management of energy efficiency and waste at customer sites.
  • To conduct its own activities and business with proper regard to the conservation of the environment. We are signatories to the Mayor of London’s Green Procurement Code and an auditor of the Investment Property Databank (IPD) Environment Code, further demonstrating our commitment to help prevent pollution and to promote sustainability. Reliance’s own commitments are reinforced by its accreditation to the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard and by the fact that in most contracts which it enters into, Reliance assumes obligations to ensure compliance with all relevant environmental legislation and regulations.

Specific ongoing initiatives would include:

  • Continuous renewal of vehicle fleets to ensure that environmental and CO² emissions are minimised and that greater fuel efficiency is attained by using the latest available technology.
  • As part of a wider health & safety initiative, the environmental impact of all materials used in the business is constantly assessed and recycling is employed wherever possible.
  • The creation of a clear awareness throughout Reliance’s workforce of the importance attached to environmental issues through consultative meetings, newsletters, recognition and award schemes and training programmes. The whole issue of energy efficiency and waste management is a prominent part of our Red Book awards.
