Highlights
Here are some of our recent highlights; a hallmark of the excellence of our work and of our people.
RoSPA Awards
Reliance won another three prestigious Gold Awards from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents. We also won a Silver Award for our Management of Occupational Road Risk. RoSPA Awards are presented to companies that demonstrate robust, high quality safety management systems and a solid track record of excellent performance.
Kids Taskforce
Reliance has continued its support of the Kids Taskforce which is a charity focused on preventing children coming to harm and the establishment of a national standard for safety education in schools. Reliance has been training teaching staff in schools to deliver the programme to children of all age groups and it has also supplied training and presentational materials.
Top 100 Employer 2009
For the third year running, Reliance was recognised as one of Britain’s Top 100 Employers by the Guardian newspaper in conjunction with the Corporate Research Foundation. Britain’s Top 100 Employers objectively identifies companies that have created a culture that embodies an outstanding working environment in which employees are appreciated and productive.
BSIA Security Officer of the Year Awards
For many years now, Reliance has been recognised by the British Security Industry Association’s Awards for exceptional service to customers and the general public, continuous improvement, innovation and service development. This year was exceptional in that we won 15 regional awards across all regions and in all categories including Best Team, Outstanding Act, Service to the Customer and Best Use of Technology. We also won three National Awards.
ACE Awards
Reliance has provided security for a number of years to Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital, often in very challenging environments such as accident and emergency. This year, three of our officers received ACE Awards (Attitude, Commitment and Enthusiasm) from the hospital for major achievement and outstanding contribution. Our contract has been renewed for a further 4 years.
Avon & Somerset Criminal Justice Awards
Reliance sponsored last year’s Avon and Somerset Criminal Justice Awards. This prestigious event recognises outstanding contributions to the criminal justice sector,including reducing re-offending, caring for witnesses and victims, tackling youth crime and engaging with local communities.
Best Integrated Security Solution
Reliance won the Best Integrated Security Solution Award at the Security Excellence Awards. This was for our work at the North Kent Police Divisional Headquarters and its 40 cell custodial centre. We created an environment which has enabled custodial staff and the police to manage events across the entire site 24/7. The system includes IP CCTV, access controls, perimeter and intruder alarms, affray alarms, video call points, intercom audio into all cells, and interview room equipment.
Reliance Academy
Now in its fourth year, the Reliance Academy saw over 600 people attend training days to develop their leadership skills and techniques. The days also provide a forum for first line managers to interact both with their contemporaries in other parts of the business and with senior management. Team leadership skills resulting in outstanding performance are recognised at these events by awards.
Landscaping Awards
This year Reliance won two national landscape maintenance awards from the British Association of Landscape Industries. The first was for its work at the Arlington Business Park at Theale which was described as a superb example of both ongoing maintenance and a realistic programme of upgrading plant material to keep the park looking fresh. The second was for its work at the Farnborough Aerospace Centre which was described as an excellent effort in which refreshing the main entrance avenue had been accomplished with aplomb.
Investor in People
Reliance retained IiP accreditation in three of its operating companies whilst its fourth, the electronics business, laid the ground for securing accreditation next year. Accreditation validates our belief that we have good training and robust systems and processes in place to ensure that our people are well looked after, motivated and eager to learn and develop as they strive for excellence. The benefits are enormous, resulting in greater efficiency, effectiveness, loyalty and the ability to manage growth and change.
Centre for Social Justice Awards
Last year we sponsored the Centre for Social Justice Awards and donated the £10,000 prize won by Bethany Christian Trust. Bethany is a charity based in Edinburgh which specialises in rehabilitation and care for vulnerable people with addiction problems, helping them get clean secure accommodation. It provides programmes at a number of levels designed to prepare individuals for employment and to re-integrate them into society.
Reliance Award Winners
Every quarter, Reliance makes a number of awards to recognize excellence and the superb contributions made to the business by its people. Award ceremonies provide an opportunity to celebrate these achievements and to recognize the efforts of those who go that extra mile. Categories cover a wide range of endeavours including Employee Excellence, Service to the Customer, Best Use of Technology and Outstanding Teamwork.
