Taunton security officer scoops award

A Taunton security officer has scooped a Best Use of Technology award in the South Wales and the Westcountry round of the British Security Industry Association”s Annual Security Officer Awards 2006.

Shaun Larkham, 35, works for Reliance Security Services and is based at Clarks in Street. He was nominated for his outstanding use of CCTV.

The value of his use of the technology was proven when Shaun was confronted with a situation where a gang of youths had started a large fire in the vicinity of a petrol station. Having called the emergency services, Shaun was able to monitor the situation on CCTV and tracked the perpetrator, which led to his arrest.

“Shaun”s use of the technology meant that he was able to monitor events as they unfolded and communicate with all parties, resulting in an arrest,” says Guy Muir, General Manager for Reliance Security Services. “The fact that this situation was dealt with successfully is a direct result of Shaun”s commitment to mastering the use of the technology.”

Mike Ingram, Security Contracts Manager for Clarks, comments: “Under pressure, Shaun dealt with the incident in a calm, controlled and utterly professional manner. He fully utilised all available technology and team resources so that not only did he take full command of the situation, but at no point were any of the other assignments left vulnerable.”

The BSIA’s Security Officer Awards are presented regionally throughout the UK, with the winners going forward to the national judging phase. The national winners will be presented with their awards by Sir Digby Jones, Director-General of the Confederation
of British Industry at the Association’s annual luncheon on 5th July at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

The BSIA would like to thank Camberford Law plc - specialist insurance brokers to the security industry - for sponsoring the Awards for the eighth successive year.

Ends.
