Reliance Security Services swept the board at this year’s British Security Industry Association Annual Security Officer Awards, winning one third of all the awards available and more awards than any other security company. The awards ceremony took place on July 11th in London.
Underlining the company’s commitment to innovation in developing effective security solutions, the use of technology featured prominently in the awards and Reliance people won all three awards in the ‘Best Use of Technology’ category.
These included an award to the team of Reliance Officers at Slough Estates CCTV Control Room. Their creative use of CCTV, whereby new procedures were devised to link security patrols and the police service in the area, produced significant improvements in identifying suspicious activity.
John Devine, Slough Estates’ Security Manager, commented: “The Security Officers are dedicated and professional. I personally marvel at how quickly they can spot something on camera, especially when one considers that not all 76 cameras are on a large screen. Our control room is now accepted as a valuable resource in combating crime in and around Slough. The team deserves to be recognised with this award.”
The Reliance security team at BAE Systems Submarines in Barrow-in-Furness has also been lauded in the same category. The Officers developed an interactive map of the site, which is now being used to assist in training Security Officers, planning new security operations and developing health and safety strategies.
“The interactive map and the subsequent improvements on site were developed as a result of these individuals recognising shortfalls in the system and then working as a team, demonstrating their own unique capabilities,” commented Dave John, BAE Systems Security and Fire Manager. “The team’s ability to ‘think outside the box’ and use technology so adeptly is testament to their skills and talents.”
Effective use of technology also resulted in Reliance Officer David Evett receiving an award for outstanding work in his role at the CCTV control room in Salisbury city centre. Mr Evett responded quickly when one of the town’s Security Officers was threatened with a knife, ensuring that the police were sent quickly to the scene and the criminal apprehended.
Mike Withers, Salisbury City Centre CCTV Manager, said: “I have, on a number of occasions, received thanks from Wiltshire Police for the excellent work of David and the team. In one instance, within the space of 24 hours David helped apprehend a drunk-driver, and two burglars. David is an excellent CCTV operative and this award is well-deserved.”
Among the other national awards, a 26-strong Reliance team at the HBOS Gasworks and Dundonald sites in Belfast won a ‘Best Team’ award for the high standard of service it has provided to HBOS, its 1,650 staff and visitors.
George Campbell, HBOS Facilities Manager, commented: “The team has been extremely proactive in the running of the site and it is a pleasure to work with such a talented group of individuals. The team thoroughly deserves this award.”
The high standards of customer service provided by Reliance Officer, Ken Ellis, in London’s West End were recognised with a ‘Service to the Customer’ award. Mr Ellis works as a front-of-house Security Officer in a prestigious building in Shaftesbury Avenue managed by Arlington Property Services.
Amy Webster, Arlington Property Services, Customer Services Manager, is delighted with the contribution that Kenneth has made: “I wholeheartedly agree that Ken deserves this award. He has always gone above and beyond the call of duty and the fact that he is very friendly and helpful are two of his best attributes. Nothing is too much trouble for Ken and he is extremely good at his job, going the extra mile whenever he can.”
Praising the achievements of all the Reliance Officers, Michael Carré, Reliance Security Services Managing Director, said: “I would like to congratulate all of our Officers on their outstanding achievements. They are a great credit to Reliance and a testament to the high levels of service, customer care and innovative use of technology that Reliance teams are committed to providing for our customers across the UK.”
