Reliance Security honoured three officers who tended to a young girl after she was the victim of a prolonged and vicious attack by a group of teenagers.
Supervisor John Perkins, and Security Officers Tam Earl and Pat Rodgers were on duty at Edinburgh’s Omni Leisure Complex when the girl staggered into one of the main malls from an externally operated car park. They wasted no time in tending to the unfortunate victim’s immediate needs, while liaising with the emergency services. Subsequently, two teenage girls and a boy were each sentenced to four years' detention for the attack.
In presenting the officers with official commendations, Grainne Kelly (Area Operations Manager, Scotland) paid tribute to their professional reaction to a very disturbing incident. “I’m very proud of these colleagues,” she said, “who worked well as a team, combining sensitivity to the victim’s needs with the professional necessity of calling the police and ambulance service.”
A spokesperson for the Omni Centre, commented: “We join Reliance Security in commending the professionalism of these officers. Our policy is to employ highly-trained customer services staff to ensure the safety and wellbeing of those who use the centre, and the quick thinking and compassion shown by the team in managing this incident deserves recognition.”
