A Professional Custody Workforce
Reliance now employs over 420 officers operating in 30 custody centres with over 470 cells across Cleveland, Sussex, Thames Valley, Warwickshire and West Mercia police services. Our officers help process and look after over 220,000 detainees annually, including taking DNA samples and fingerprints, managing electronic ID parades, interpreters and forensic medical examinations.
Benefits
We have demonstrated significant improvements in efficiency and effectiveness. The outsourcing of custody at Thames Valley has released 133 police officers for frontline duties. Reliance responsibilities also extend to providing drugs intervention officers testing ‘trigger offence’ offenders.
With Sussex Police we have reduced the time from point of arrival at custody to detention being authorised to an average of nine minutes, quickly releasing officers to continue with their investigations. We also provide the management of video ID parades, again releasing officers.
Custody management
Reliance already works in partnership with five police services to manage their custody, releasing uniformed officers back to frontline duties.
Forensic Medicine
Reliance Medical Services works with individual police services to provide timely, comprehensive, safe and cost-effective forensic examiner solutions.
DNA Drug testing
Trigger offences require the testing of offenders for drug abuse. Reliance can provide experienced people for the testing and counselling of offenders.
ID Parades
We have the capabilities and experience to support the police with their identification procedures.
Police training
Our extensive training programmes, facilities and training officers can meet the needs of training for custodial situations, such as First Aid, Control & Restraint and use of the Livescan equipment for fingerprinting.
Bail Management
Managing and liaising between the various departments and agencies for Bail returnees is often a time consuming procedure. Reliance aims to release officers back to core duties by managing this.
