Reliance Custodial Services

DNA/Drugs Testing

In addition to taking detainee fingerprints and photographs, (the Reliance teams are fully trained in the use of the Livescan fingerprinting and Video Witness machines), part of the custody process includes the taking of DNA samples and can include drug testing of a detainee.

In Thames Valley offenders arrested for one of the trigger offences in the ‘Tough Choices’ Programme are tested for drug use by a Reliance Drug Intervention Officer. Samples are collected by fully trained officers from detainees, though every member of the team has undertaken training on both the practicalities of collecting and testing the samples and is well advised of the consequences for the detainee of a positive test. A high priority is placed on the efficient processing of obtaining samples in order that the results can be communicated swiftly.

If necessary, this service could also be provided to a police service wishing to randomly drug test its officers and staff.
