Reliance Custodial Services

Identification Procedures

We have the capabilities and experience to support the police with their identification procedures.

All procedures are conducted with a high standard of witness care, which meet the requirements of Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights in contributing to a fair trial, in accordance with Code D of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act, 1984 (as amended on 1 January 2006) and which meet the rigorous demands of the Criminal Justice System.

RSTM can assist with the following types of identification procedure:

  1. Video identification.
  2. Identification parades.
  3. Group identification.
  4. Confrontation.

Under the guidance of the police ‘Identification Officer’ who retains overall responsibility for the conduct of the procedures, Reliance assists with the administration, preparation, witness care, viewing and subsequent processing of information to ensure that police officers can spend more time on their core roles.

Our highly trained staff have been designated in the role and authorised by the Chief Constables of Sussex, Thames Valley and Cleveland to undertake these roles.

We understand the large majority of detainees are initially offered a video identification procedure as this can be compiled and arranged sooner than an identification parade. We are fully equipped to compile video identification tapes and perform the showing of them under the guidance of the 'Identification Officer’ and our staff are familiar with the Viper, Video Witness and Parade Manager systems.
