Primary Care Trusts were recently given the responsibility for healthcare services in prisons. One solution to modernising these services is to commission a specialist partner with experience of both offender management and healthcare.
Reliance Medical Services offers a complete service under contract to the PCT, designed to meet the needs of the particular group of offenders – male, female, young offender and juveniles. Our approach is to create, as far as is possible in the custodial setting, a community-style health provision with emphasis on self care and chronic disease management.
Our services include drug treatment, counselling and psychological therapies in recognition of the complex needs of some of the prison population.
- Management expertise in providing health care in secure settings, including immigration centres.
- Doctors who are experienced in working with offenders and drug mis-users.
- High grade nurses who can work as nurse practitioners in a custodial setting.
- Drug formularies and prescribing advice that can substantially cut prescribing costs.
- Clinical governance structures which link in with local NHS arrangements.
