A group set up to support women throughout Thames Valley Police was officially launched by their Chief Constable on Wednesday 12 March. The Thames Valley Women’s Network open day was sponsored by Reliance Secure Task Management and a cheque was handed over by female Reliance Custody Officers who work in the Thames Valley Police custody centres.
Over 150 people visited throughout the day, attendees were encouraged to visit representatives from many departments including Occupational Health, Human Resources, Roads Policing, Tactical Support, Public Order, Major Crime, Procurement, Property Services, Learning and Development, Control Rooms & Enquiry Department, Unison and the Force Chaplin.
A workshop entitled ‘Positive Thinking for Positive Outcomes’ and a ‘Question Time’ with a panel of experts on hand to answer questions were both very well attended.
In the evening the Chief Constable Sara Thornton officially launched The Women’s Network assisted by Chief Supt Carole Haveron saying a few words together with guest speaker Karen Murphy, a Leadership Development Consultant.
Chief Supt Carole Haveron commented, “I am delighted with the turnout and very happy to see so many supporting the event. The network has already proved to be a great service offering support to many.”
The network has been set up to provide a support group committed to improving the working environment and maximizing the potential of women working for Thames Valley Police. It aims to promote equal opportunities for female service employees, to offer advice and support, to act as a critical friend and facilitate mentoring.
The Women’s Network supports the Gender Agenda initiative, which highlights important issues in the police service, ensuring that women have the right environment and equipment to do their job professionally, promoting work-life balance and the importance of flexible hours.
Membership of the network is open to all officers, special constables, PCSOs, police staff, volunteers and Reliance staff. For anyone who has a problem or needs to talk with someone away from their normal working environment, the women’s network has members at all levels of the organisation to give help and support to their colleagues.
