Police Premises Modernisation

Police Modernisation

The Modernisation of Police Services to many simply means the empowering of officers on patrol with technology to enable them to perform their job better and easier, eliminating paperwork and easing their workload. However, the modernisation of the police service can be seen as much more, it should also include the improvement of facilities with the provision of buildings that are modern and efficient working environments, not just for officers, but also for police staff or even detainees.

Kent police have been the most recent police service to open a new building have taken advantage of the Government PFI scheme, in July they officially opened their latest Divisional HQ and custody facilities at Northfleet, Gravesend. A new, state-of-the-art 11,500m2 four storey building, which includes a police station, office space, 40 cell custody centre, CSI vehicle inspection garage and evidential property store and utilising the latest in geothermal heating and cooling technology for energy efficiency.

This is the 12th building provided by Reliance Secure Task Management and its' associated consortia to British Police Services. These include 6 Intervention and Detention Handling Centres (custody Suites) for Sussex Police, a headquarters for Gloucestershire Constabulary, two police stations and two district headquarters with custody suites for Cleveland Police.

“The new North Kent Police station is without doubt the finest police facilities I have seen in my 29 years service and we are all very enthusiastic about the opportunities it will bring us in policing North Kent.”
Gary Beautridge, Assistant Chief Constable, Kent Police.
