Forensic Science Service is the leading provider of forensic analytical services and expert reporting with laboratory facilities around the UK. Working with a large number of police services, the FSS employs a stringent quality  management process for all procedures at its ten laboratories, including the specialist fire arms laboratory in Manchester. Communicating the analysis of results within strict deadlines to investigating officers requires the prompt collection and delivery of evidence, whilst ensuring the package is not compromised.

In 1999 the FSS identified non-core activities for the business that could be outsourced; this included the transportation of evidence between police stations and the laboratories.

Reliance provides secure transportation for the Forensic Science Service;

• Collecting and delivering over 70,000 containers of evidence per annum
• From 39 police forces in the UK
• Covering over 1 million miles per year

Reliance consistently assists the FSS to meet their three day turnaround target and has never lost or damaged a piece of evidence.

This involves:

• The operation of 29 vehicles
• From 9 distribution hubs
• The employment of 40 people

Reliance use:

• Unmarked vehicles
• Every vehicle has a GPS tracking system.
• Drivers wear a plain uniform

Vigilance is required at all times to ensure evidence is not compromised. The drivers never leave the van and only stop in nominated secure areas such as police stations, laboratories or the Reliance hub.
